How To Take The Travel Plunge:
The hardest part of travel is getting the ball rolling, and starting on your travel dream! Once you get into the habit of planning travel adventures, and heading off to exotic locations, it becomes easier and easier to continue on your merry travel way on a regular basis!
How do you go from the person who has never left their state to the one skipping around a foreign land, taking photos that are beautiful enough they could be postcards, and making memories to last a lifetime or two?
1. Move The Obstacles Out Of The Way!
So you want to go to ... insert name of location here...
Yes, there will be obstacles, but that doesn't make your dream impossible. Recognize what is holding you back from your dream and make a plan to deal with the situation.
I'm going to guess time and money are two main obstacles.
You'll likely have some free time during spring break, Christmas break, and summer break correct?
Good, those are all a little ways from now, so you have time to maybe find some ways to cut down on spending, and maybe pick up a part time job!
(I didn't say preparing to take the travel plunge would be easy, but I will say its worth it, 100 times over!)
2. Plan A Mini Trip To Gain Some Travel Experience
Once you get into the habit of travel, its easier and easier to par take in! Before you go on your halfway around the world expedition, start small and try making a trip more locally.
Any interesting cities near you? Jump on the Megabus and head into the city! Spend a night, and explore the sites.
You'll gain many valuable skills from a small trip!
How to pack intelligently
How to navigate in an unknown location
How to search for hotels and site seeing destinations!
3. Find A Travel Buddy
Making a commitment to yourself is one thing, making a commitment to another person is something entirely different.
You know how they say when you start at the gym, get a gym buddy? Once you make a commitment to another person, its harder to talk yourself AND them out of it.
Find an equally travel-hungry friend, and decide on a location together. Then, pick a time to go, and promise to update each other on how you're doing saving for your adventure.
Proceed to have overly-excited hangouts discussing your trip, and dream about all the wonderful things you'll experience together!
4. Just Do It!
That Nike slogan isn't just for advertising Nike Free Running Shoes (though those are adorable, and might be a sensible footwear choice when touristing!)
Honestly, I know you're sitting looking at the flight booking website with your mouse over the 'Confirm' button but are not sure if you should click it.
Just. Do. It.
Book that trip, and don't look back!
You're going to have such a wonderful trip! Have an amazing time, and send me a postcard wont you?
